A New Adventure!
On Friday, June 21, 2019, Downtown Wichita Falls Development embarked on a new adventure! We purchased 709 Indiana Avenue. This 100+ year old building was once the Jolesch – Thomas Shoe Company in the 20’s and Goodies in the 60’s – 70’s. After renovations it will be the new home to the Downtown Development offices and a Downtown Welcome Center.
Downtown Wichita Falls Development, Inc. will be celebrating its 20 year anniversary at the turn of 2020 and the establishment of the mission to preserve historical buildings, while protecting our traditional and cultural values and promoting common interests and quality of life for our community. It was the vision of those incorporators to practice preservation not only in terms of advocacy and education, but in terms of actual application and action. From gaining experience working with investors and developers on possibilities, to guiding businesses through project management, to acting as liaisons focused on business retention, we are well equipped to take the next step as developers ourselves. DWFD has been successful in prior endeavors as evidenced through the rehabilitation of the Zales Building, 800 Ohio Avenue, which is currently the Karat Bar & Bistro and Ganache-To-Go.

While Downtown has continued to evolve and reinvigorate, DWFD has continued to strengthen and grow in its public capacity. “You’re Invited Too.”, it is more than a tagline on a piece of marketing collateral. It is an open invitation and welcome to both visitors and community members alike, to come experience the heartbeat of our city and the true hub of entrepreneurship. It is DWFD’s genuine intention, in every encounter to show the highest standards of hospitality and inclusion for all who wish to be here.
